There's a certain aura that radiates from Gojira that is at once both staggering and esoteric. The niche the Frenchmen have carved for themselves has the tell tale signs of workmanship from a truly groundbreaking act; often imitated, never duplicated. Their growth from underground darlings to groove metal superheroes has been an exercise in understanding what it is that the heavy music world wants from its torchbearers. But therein lies the enigmatic position which Gojira currently hold; where do vanguards turn next when their contemporaries have adopted the now auspicious template that they themselves have woven? The answer is modestly self evident; back to the wild where they found their ingenuity in the first place. And that's precisely what Joe and Mario Duplantier and company have done with L'Enfant Sauvage, which shows that even veteran pathfinders find themselves toiling to find their footing in the infantile stages of a new sojourn.
A few days ago, Sumerian records released the above clip. It's a teaser for Veil Of Maya's brand new record, Eclipse. Seeing this clip above got me pretty excited to hear some new material from these Chicago natives. Thankfully, I didn't have to wait long. Last night, around 11pm or so, the first single of Eclipse was released. Entitled "Vicious Circles," the new track is mighty impressive. If this is a good indication of the kind of material we can expect from the new album, count this guy as very interested.
And so it is that another new Mastodon song has been released from their upcoming album, The Hunter. This song, probably as no surprise to anyone, is pretty sweet. I'm gonna paraphrase Axl from Metalsucks by saying I don't know what the hell "Curl Of The Burl" means but I do indeed know that "Curl Of The Burl" is a pretty awesome tune. It just makes me that much more excited for the new album. Be sure to check out The Hunter when it drops on September 27.
8/16/11 Update
I should've suspected that the song wouldn't last long without being a official release from Mastodon themselves (damn you copyright laws). But thankfully, Mastodon did just that today. Check out the official video for "Curl Of The Burl" below, which is really just trippy footage of a forest with Mastodon music behind it.
Well here we go everybody. Here's our first taste of some brand spankin' new Mastodon. And not are we only blessed with a full length track, entitled Black Tongue, but we also get the full album details! Mastodon's new album, The Hunter, will be coming out on September 27 via Reprise Records. If this track is any indication of what the new album will be delivering, count me as super happy.
Step aside Opeth, Dream Theater is now ready to take the "announcing of new album details spotlight." The new album has been named A Dramatic Turn Of Events. While an official release date is not set, we can expect the album to drop in early September.
Here's the official tracklisting as well.
01. On The Backs Of Angels
02. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
03. Lost Not Forgotten
04. This Is The Life
05. The Shaman's Trance
06. Outcry
07. Far From Heaven
08. Breaking All Illusions
09. Beneath The Surface
Didn't I just tell ya this year had plenty more in store for us?! Opeth has officially announced, via their facebook page, that their new album will be entitled Heritage. The album is also set to be released this September, apparently. Good news indeed. I'll post more news about this as it is released.
5/26/11
I figured I would just update the next wave of info here rather than on another post. But yes there is plenty of new info on Opeth's new album including the full track-lisitng!
To further my notion of how 2011 will be the year of prog (see my WDILF post below), Scale the Summit has just officially announced that their new album, entitled The Collective, will be released on March 1st via Prosthetic records. Get pumped everybody. Scale the Summit is for real.
What's our motto every Friday here on Brutalitopia? You guessed it. We'll do it live! Since the majority of news coming out lately is realted to new albums/ new tracks of bands releasing new material this year, I figured I should just ride that train as well. Find out which prog gods will be releasing a new album this year which you should be super jacked for after the break.
So Protest the Hero just released this video update via their facebook page. People (including myself) usually complain about how many updates from bands usually feature more random studio stuff between the members of the band that those members would really only understand than any actual music samples. However, we have found an exception. Protest the Hero is evidence of how studio updates can be done tastefully. Granted, there are way more random clips put together here than actual music but they are all worth watching and aren't annoying or stupid. Plus the few music samples that are in there are awesome! Be on the lookout for when these guys announce news about their new record that is sure to come out sometime in 2011. We'll keep you all posted.
So apparently the last couple days have been all been nominated as "post everything possible about your new album day." With the likes of Devildriver, Devin Townsend, and Lazarus A.D. having posted new info about their upcoming releases, Alex Laiho and the dudes from Children Of Bodom have now chosen to enter the fray as well. COB's seventh studio album (as depicted above) is titled "Relentless Reckless Forever" and will be released on March 8, 2011. You can view the official track listing below after the break.
Dez and the boys from Devildriver are back with pretty much as much news as they can give you about their new album without actually releasing it. As you can probably deduce from the artwork, the new album will be called 'Beast' and is scheduled to be released on February 22, 2011. In addition, Roadrunner released the full tracklist for the album today. It can be seen below after the break.
Your eyes do not deceive you my friends. It is true. Roadrunner just announced that Mikael and the boys from Opeth will be entering the studio this coming January to begin work on their TENTH studio record! Release dates have already been speculated to be sometime in the fall of 2011.
I can assure you 100% that there will be plenty more information on this as they begin recording, which by the way will be assisted by Porcupine Tree's Steve Wilson. Needless to say, I'm jacked. You should be too!
