I'll never forget the first time I listened to The Dillinger Escape Plan. Some friends were coming into town to visit for a long weekend, and I had a couple hours to kill before their bus got in. As I wandered around a Borders (remember those?) in the Chicago loop, I found a book to read and decided to buy a CD as well (remember THOSE?). I had never listened to DEP, but I knew them by reputation, and so when I saw Miss Machine on the shelf, I decided "why the hell not?" and picked it up. As soon as I got to the el, I ripped the cellophane off and threw the disc into my bright blue Sony Walkman (remember TH... ok I'll stop). Forty minutes later, I woke up from a thorough, bruising audio beating. Miss Machine was like nothing I had ever heard.

Summer Slaughter: From WTF to HOLY SHIT in a matter of a couple years
First of all, HEY THERE. If you don’t already know who I am,
my name is “Angela”, and I enjoy the metal. I used to write for a few websites
such as Reign In Blonde and MetalSucks. I also have been known to get blackout
and make an ass of myself. Fuck you, don’t judge me. ANYWAY, Brutalitopia has
graciously invited me to come and make a mockery of all things metal on their
website, and I couldn’t be more excited to upset all of you. With that
said….let’s get to it, bitches.

The Dillinger Escape Plan - One Of Us Is The Killer
The Dillinger Escape
Plan’s fifth album “One Of Us Is The Killer” is a frustrating one. On the one
hand, there are a number of the spastic, intense jams that listeners of the
band have known to come and love, but on the other the band makes some very
questionable moves that scar their otherwise strong track record.

Exclusive Interview - The Dillinger Escape Plan
It was with great pleasure that I was able to interview The Dillinger Escape Plan's lead singer, Greg Puciato, as they came through Chicago on their current tour with Deftones. Greg was a blast to talk to and is a really great guy. Be sure to check out this band live if you never have before. They have an energy in the live setting that is unparalleled to anything I've ever seen. After their performance was over at the Deftones show, they played another show in the same night here in Chicago. They took the stage around 12:45am and tore the place apart. I've never seen a concert with such raw energy and emotion. Between the guitarists leaping off of the amps mid-song, Greg climbing up the poles on the ceiling, and the whole front row of the crowd getting up on stage with the band and moshing with them, I think it's safe to say no one quite brings it like Dillinger does.
Be sure to check out the clips I got of their Deftones performance and their headlining show that took place later that night after the break. That later show, by the way, was tweeted by Greg the next day as being one of his "top 10 favorite DEP shows of all time."

New Music Videos - The Dillinger Escape Plan + The Human Abstract
You don't need any approval other than Chuck's.
I feel like music videos as a whole have fallen by the way side as an artform. However, that's not to say that I don't still enjoy the hell out of them. This week saw the release of two music videos, in particular, from bands that are no strangers of our posts here at Brutalitopia. I speak of none other than The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Human Abstract.
Both these vids are really cool in there own unique ways. Dillinger's vid of "Gold Teeth On A Bum" has some pretty awesome mixing of live audio incorporated into it. The actual footage being of a live concert doesn't hurt either. The Human Abstract's new vid of "Patterns" also made me raise the horns after watching. With this new one they use a similar formula to what they did with "Digital Veil." It's just straight up in your face playing. I love it.
See the videos after the break.

Mick's Top 10 Albums Of 2010

Yeah, thats about how metal it got for Jack and I this year.
Don't worry everybody. The picture above is no indication of how metal the year was. I just wanted to throw this picture up for the hell of it. Quite to the contrary, this year saw the release of numerous albums that were receiving consideration from me to make this list. And because of that, it was extremely difficult to finalize this list. There were some I didn't get a chance to listen to as much as I would've liked but hey, that's just the nature of the game. Overall, 2010 was a fine year for metal. More specifically, it was a big showing for black metal and older well established bands still proving they got what it takes. So enough chatter, here's my list.
