Exclusive Interview: Mario Duplantier (Gojira)

Gojira opening for Slayer is a show that Durf and I felt, as metal fans, we were obligated to go see. Luckily enough, we were also able to catch up with Mario Duplantier, Gojira's drummer, beforehand. We chatted with Mario about his thoughts on the current tour, their latest album, the French metal scene, and much more. Check the interview out after the break!

Concert Review: Goblin - 10/13/13 Chicago, IL. The Metro

 My experience with Goblin goes as far as watching Suspiria and creating a Goblin Pandora station. That's it; certainly not extensive enough to call myself a big fan, but I do like their music. So when they announced their first US tour EVER, I had to go, both for the music and the fact that 40+ year old Italian progressive horror soundtrack bands don't have their first ever US tour everyday. As an added bonus, Chicago's Revolution Brewery was releasing a special one-time only imperial red ale to be tapped at the show. Fucking A.

Summer Slaughter: From WTF to HOLY SHIT in a matter of a couple years

First of all, HEY THERE. If you don’t already know who I am, my name is “Angela”, and I enjoy the metal. I used to write for a few websites such as Reign In Blonde and MetalSucks. I also have been known to get blackout and make an ass of myself. Fuck you, don’t judge me. ANYWAY, Brutalitopia has graciously invited me to come and make a mockery of all things metal on their website, and I couldn’t be more excited to upset all of you. With that said….let’s get to it, bitches.

As I Lay Paralyzed

It's been a little while since I've heard anything from the As I Lay Dying camp.  It's sure a good thing, however, that what I found out from them the other day was that they've not only announced a pretty badass tour but also released a brand new song.  The song, "Paralyzed," can be heard below.  I'd have to say it's definitely what you would expect from them but that doesn't take anything away from how awesome it is. 



Oh, and about that tour I mentioned.  They'll be going around with support from the likes of Of Mice and Men, The Ghost Inside, iwrestledabearonce, and Sylosis.  I'm so incredibly happy that Sylosis will be able to make it to the states.

Dream Theater Touring With Trivium?! Sign Me Up, Please.

Dream Theater has officially announced some initial dates of their fall tour in support of their upcoming September 13 release of A Dramatic Turn Of Events.  They're also bringing along this band named Trivium.  Who's ever heard of that band, right? 

Here's some of the official statement from Roadrunner. 

Dream Theater are also planning to embark on a massive world tour, where they will play selections from A Dramatic Turn of Events, as well as classic staples and fan favorites. Labelmates Trivium will appear on many dates, supporting their new album In Waves.

"We are all very pumped about the release of A Dramatic Turn of Events this September, as well as the world tour we'll embark upon in support of the album," said Petrucci. "Our first leg will bring us throughout North America where we'll showcase songs from the new album along with tons of fan favorites and a brand new tour production unlike any other that we've done before. We're equally excited to have our friends in Trivium join us. It's sure to be an incredible tour. We're looking forward to seeing all of our friends on the road this fall!"

Scale The Summit Announces Upcoming Tour With Periphery!

Your favorite Houston based instrumental band, Scale The Summit, has just announced a tour this coming spring with Periphery and Fair To Midland! It's been a little too long since we've heard anything from these guys so I'm glad that the first thing we do hear back from them is about tour dates.  Dates can be found below after the break.

Times Of Touring Grace

For the past couple weeks, Times of Grace, the new project of original Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach and current KSE guitarist Adam D., have been releasing music video teasers of a few of their songs from their upcoming album The Hymn Of A Broken Man which will be released on Januaray 18, 2011.  I didn't bother to post them up here becasue that wouldn't just gotten annoying plus I find teasers like that annoying anyways.  So I was lulled into believing that would be the only real type of news from them until the new album dropped.

But much to my surprise, they released their upcoming tour information today!  That's right. Times Of Grace's first tour has been officially announced and will begin on February 1.  Their supporting acts will be Straight Line Stitch and War Of Ages.  From the beginning of Times Of Grace, it was said that this side project would be a mix of many musical genres but from what I've heard so far it sounds pretty much like old KSE, which I'm not complaining about at all.  Count me as interested in this one.

As I Lay Dying Announces 2011 Headlining Tour

The San Diego based metalcore giants As I Lay Dying just released info about their first tour of 2011. For them it will be a headlining tour along with support from Winds Of Plague and After The Burial. To be completely honest, this lineup seems mediocre at best. I hate to say that because I've always had a great respect for As I Lay Dying because they do bring it live. But count me as un-interested in this concert. If this does interest anybody you can see the dates below after the break.

Heavier Than HELL

It has been just announced that Whitechapel will be headlining a tour that is, well.....HEAVY.  Starting February 10, the Welcome To Hell Tour will be featuring Whitechapel as the headliners along with support from The Acacia Strain, Veil Of Maya (Chicago's own!), Chelsea Grin, and I Declare War.  The tour dates can be found below after the break.

Slipknot To Return To The Stage

They indeed will not die, which is good to hear.  It was just announced today on Slipknot's official website that they will be returning for some live performances.

"Slipknot are proud to announce that they will return in 2011 to headline the UK’s Sonisphere Festival. The weekend event at the world famous Knebworth site is set for Friday July 8th- Sunday July 10th.

Expect the band to bring an incendiary show to Sonisphere, as the icons prepare to honour Paul Gray’s memory and musical career with their Knebworth appearance. Slipknot say, “We’re looking forward to spending our summer in Europe. This tour is about us and our fans. It’s about celebrating the life of our brother, Paul and his legacy. The door is neither open nor closed. This tour is about burning down that door. See you this summer.”

The band hope you will come join them in Europe next Summer to celebrate and remember their brother, Paul Gray."

I'm glad to hear that Slipknot is doing this.  With Paul's tragic death, I was almost certain that Slipknot would be no more.  Slipknot, I feel, has always been a band that was willing to give back to their fans.  But especially since Paul's gone now, it seems even more important that they do this.  Besides, giving to the fans is really what it's all about.  Good for Slipknot.
