Exclusive Interview - Oderus Urungus (Gwar)

Gwar; the intergalactic mutant metal aliens have been active for nearly 30 years and are getting set to release their 13th album Battle Maximus; their first since the loss of their former guitarist Flattus Maximus. I gave front man Oderus Urungus a call to talk about  interplanetary conquest, upcoming tours, the NFL, the new album and more. It was a fun and funny session that all fans of Gwar have come to expect and love with each and every appearance by the band. Check out the video after the jump and enjoy. I know I sure did.

Exclusive Interview - Steve Brooks and Evan Danielson of Mouth Of The Architect

This past Sunday, here in Chicago, I wasn't quite as captivated with the train-wreck that was the MTV VMA's as much as the rest of the country seemed to be. I was much more interested in the fact that Ohio metallers Mouth Of The Architect were playing a headline show in a super tiny bar venue for a mere $5. In addition, I was able to catch up and interview their guitarist/vocalist Steve Brooks and their bassist Evan Danielosn. We managed to chat about their touring they just wrapped up, future plans, thoughts on the new album, and plenty of other topics worth hearing about.

Check out the interview and some awesome footage of the concert after the break!

Born Of Osiris - Tomorrow We Die ∆live

I’d be lying to you all if I said I wasn’t in the least bit interested to hear the new album from Chicago area natives Born Of Osiris. Coming off their last critically acclaimed full length album, 2011’s The Discovery, their brand new release, Tomorrow We Die Δlive, certainly had some expectations to live up to. Unfortunately, the loss of guitarist Jason Richardson proved to be much more detrimental than they’d like to admit. Through an obnoxious and tedious use of recycled breakdown-driven grooves and all-to-familiar soloing, Tomorrow We Die Δlive comes across as little more than a shell of what once made The Discovery so great. Ultimately, this release will expose your ears to a lackluster listening experience. In Δddition, they seem to have Δ big issue with a certΔin letter of the ΔlphΔbet, since they replΔce every single one in their trΔck titles with Δ triΔngle. See how Δnnoying that gets?

Exhumed - Necrocracy

Gory veterans of the heavy metal scene Exhumed have just bestowed upon the metal masses a new album; one that follows up their critical success of a previous album, namely All Guts No Glory, an album I myself gave the #22 spot in 2011. So it is needless to say that expectations for Necrocracy are quite high. Matt Harvey has returned with his merry band of medical malpractitioners and has used the previous 2 years to up the ante and make an album that is equally heavy and catchy and helps open doors like a coroner who loves his job.

The Case For Trivium

Just a forewarning, this article will be a rather extensive read. "Oh joy, a super long article on Trivium!" I can hear many of you sarcastically saying as you roll your eyes. This article is actually to address and hopefully correct that very notion that made you roll your eyes in the first place. Trivium has always taken a lot of flack over the years from the online community.  Granted, some may have been justified, but the purpose of this article is to provide evidence that not only is most of that flack unjustified but that you should also be grateful that they’re around in the current mainstream metal scene.
