Battle Of The Covers: Round 1

Ouch.

This was just a random thought I had in response to an awesome cover that just recently surfaced.  Much in the spirit of March Madness, I thought it would be neat if there were some sort of "tournament" of metal covers.  This idea isn't new by any means but tournaments are things that just never seem to go out of style.  So with that in mind, I've decided to take the initial steps in creating what could become a beast of a tourney.

In retrospect, it's really odd how this idea was conceived.  It all started with the recent release of Amon Amarth's System Of A Down cover of Aerials.  This is by far one of the best metal covers I've heard in quite some time.  Sadly, the glory of this cover brought back some bitter memories....memories of another fairly new metal cover.  This cover I speak of is Disturbed's U2 cover of I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (cleverly titled Ishwilf).  I know what you're thinking.  "Yuck" was my instinctive reaction too.  But thinking of that god awful cover was actually a good thing because it made me think, "The Amon Amarth cover would kick the holy hell of out of this cover any day of the week, and then most likely rape it."  And thus, we've found our #1 and #16 seeds in our little tourney.

Round 1:
#1 Seed

VS.

#16 Seed

Depending on how many other covers I come up with in the future, this tourney could die right here with this post.  But if there's enough interest from anybody reading this, be sure to comment or email us with suggestions!

  1. Amon Amarth in a TKO. Not even close; Disturbed's bastardization of a classic pop song doesn't even land a punch on the Viking beasts. It's like Manny Pacquiao fighting a first grader. I could go on, but I think I've made my point.
